Anyone out there like me with their Mommy antennas spronging into gear? (this is in adult health but it is really the whole family). Any nurses or docs out there who want to comment? Also, are there enough stores of tamiflu in case we need it? We all were sick this week, but I think it was the common cold. I'm also concerned about my elderly father who is 82 with early Alzheimers. I told my Mom to go to the ER immediately if any symptoms showed up.

Edited Apr 26 by Karen to add: U.S. has declared a swine flu emergency and there is a confirmed case in Ohio. Story. fyi: We have a good discussion going about this, so I added a link to our discussion in the news story, in case people want to see what we moms are saying. :-)

I am not freaked out yet. It is in mexico and I think 8 cases in Texas from what I saw this morning. I think it is definitely something to be concerned about. My dh is flying out West this week. I told him please please wash his hands as much as possible from the airport and hotel.

Nope. Not worried at all. I think the media makes all of these "flu's" worse than they really are. I am a MRSA survivor (septic) and I always take the laid back approach to these kinds of media-related sicknesses. Guess that will make me a bad mom, but.. until it hits the states and our area.. I don't worry or fret about it.

Oh, no, Devon, it does not make you a bad mom! I think the worry warts like me are the worst moms of all (I had one for a mom too!) But it has now shown up in Kansas and New York as well as Tx. and California. Seems like an eastern drift to me. Wish I could have your calm attitude! You are right, the media whips up a lot of anxiety, but the CDC's posting was not quite reassuring. (I suck at posting links but cdc is easy to google).

I am not worried about it at all. Until I am being told that it is a epidemic and that I should be worried because there are numerous cases reported in Ohio then I refuse to worry about it. Here is the link to the cdc website.

I am a little. I studied the epidemic of 1917-18 and it was really bad.

Yup! I read the book about it. Engrossing at the time, but now I wish I hadn't read it.

The epidemic of 1917-18 and the black plague are ancient history. I did an extensive research paper on the black plague about 2 years ago... and my conclusion... that we bring these superbugs/plagues on ourselves. We have the knowledge and power to control these issues, yet the government choses to ignore the problem... OH.. I got an "A" on the paper!!!
