According to the Enquirer, the family of Jessica Logan, who hanged herself after nude pictures she took on her cell phone were disseminated without her permission, is suing the school, the city of Montgomery and several students they believe are involved.

Jessica and two friends were 18-year-old seniors on spring break when they decided to take nude pictures of themselves. Jessica sent hers to a boyfriend, who forwarded them to others. She was teased and called a slut, among other things. About a month after graduating from Sycamore High, she killed herself.

When she was being teased, her parents went to the police, who told them that she was 18 and had sent the picture herself, so there wasn't anything they could do.

Details are here: Enquirer story.

What do you think about the parents suing over this?

UPDATE: Information about the actual suit on page 5.

They should let it go.

I agree... they should let it go. She was 18 and there was nothing the police/city could do about it. She showed poor judgement. Yes, its tragic that she hung herself, but a huge life lesson could've been learned through her actions. In my opinion, the parents missed the boat on showing her how one little thing can have huge consequences.

I know they are sad, I would be to.  Heck Im sad for them. But she it was not the schools fault.  I do think there should be laws that could fine people for sending these pictures.  Especialy kids, maybe take their licence and fine them.  Because as we have seen it can be very harmful.  But to sue the school... I don't agree

Youth.... we wish it away while we have it and then we spend the rest of our lives wishing it back....

She took the pictures and the boyfriend shared them.  End of story.  She should not have done that.  Suicide is not the answer, but it's what she did.  The family needs a counselor, not a lawyer.

so many people believe in you, make sure you're one of them!

I feel bad for the family, I REALLY do, however, I don't see how they have a case against anyone.  Do I think that Jessice should have taken naked pictures of herself and sent them to her boyfriend, no.  Do I think that the boyfriend should have shared them with other people, no.  Legally, I don't think anyone should be held accountable for her decision.  Morally, though, I think that they are all to blame.

I don't think they should be able to sue the school, or even the City of Montgomery.  The students whom they are sure that forwarded the pics, I think maybe so. If it sets a precedent and makes people think twice about forwarding garbage, then maybe something worthwhile would have come out of their tragedy.

I agree with the PP.  She took the pictures, she forwarded them to the guy, and, unfortunately, she chose to commit suicide.  It's tragic for the family, but I don't think anyone is really to blame.  for what has happened.

Yes, that sounds like it would be the right legal term.

They do not have a case. They will be wasting a ton of money for no finacial gain. She knowingly made a stupid decision, but she was past the 18 marker. Adults do have to be responsible for their actions.
