UPDATE 10:44 a.m. Thurs Sept. 17

NOTICE FROM EDITORS: Further replies are hereby forbidden in this thread. It is now locked to comments.

This site is not a Catholic blog. It is a social networking site for moms in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.

If a member of a blog community would like to post an invitation for our moms to check out the conversation on that blog, you may do so by starting a separate post in our Religion and Beliefs discussion category. But we cannot allow a flood of repetitive comments by people who have an agenda, are not genuine members of our community here and have been mobilized to distort our poll.

WARNING:

This thread is locked to further comment. Anyone posting after this notice will have their account deactivated and all their comments deleted from the discussion.

UPDATE: 12:08 p.m. Sept. 16:

I wanted to let everyone know something interesting about the poll results. I've discovered that our little poll ended up on a Catholic blog in which the blogger urges readers to vote in our poll. See the blog post here: http://wdtprs.com/blog/2009/09/cincy-teacher-dismissed-for-support-of-womens-ordination-poll-alert/

I suspect this is why we have so many votes.

UPDATE 4 p.m. Sept. 16: If you scroll down a ways on that blog, you'll see people's comments about the takeover of our poll. Interesting!

Thanks for posting the link!  My mom is also a lifelong Catholic and believes that women should be ordained.  She is a retired teacher, but still teaches as a substitute for a handful of catholic schools near her neighborhood.  When I first saw this, I thought the article might be about her (although she does get paid).

In my mind this is what the church teaches right now and should be followed and if you disagree then do not go to the church.

I on the other hand feel women can be just as good if not better  on the pulpit.

I am in shock-although I shouldn't be.  The Church has increasingly sought to assert its authority as an institution rather than a religious entity.

The Church needs to realize that throughout its existence, there has always been the Truth, but our understanding of it evolves.  We need open, candid conversation about issues in the church, not sanctions.

Nowhere do any articles suggest that the women in question were dimissed because they didn't teach the catechism correctly.

Do I think women should be priests?  I'm really not sure.  But I do think that the Church would only benefit from opening dialogue with its members.

Is it possible that the Church is wrong on this?  Jesus did not forbid women as priests...

How is it that women cannot be priests?

This is not correct.  It was the parish priest that made the decision, not the archbishop.
It is not about her beliefs of whether women s/b priests.  She is an educator and not agreeing with the teachings of the church.
So disagree, your right.  But don't expect to be welcomed as a teacher.

That is what I thopught at first.  But, what if the Church's teaching on this subject is incorrect?  Could that be possible?

She is teaching the catechism of the church-not her personal beliefs.  As long as she is teaching the catechism and not expressing her own personal views to the children, I see no problem with her teaching.
