Why does Walmart get such a bad rap?

Every time I read a thread about someone going to Walmart, they almost apologize for going there. I know I know.... there was a post a while back with pictures of Walmart customers and I totally get that. It's white-trash central... i get that as well.

But are we really that eliteist (sp?) ?  I love Walmart. It is HUGE, has TONS of stuff and is CHEAP. Their grocery department rocks! Even the produce! I wish they had a fresh meat department but that's about the only reason I like Kroger better (that and double coupons, of course).

But really, why does everyone hate Walmart?

I shop at Walmart. I think some locations are definitely better than others. Two in paticular come to mind. One is a nice clean store, with "normal" customers and "normal" friendly employees. The other, for lack of a better way of putting it, seems like a sess pool of germs, and many of the customers look like they are right off of that Walmart website. Plus the employees are super rude. But I like to shop there because I do save money. However, like others have said, I sometimes spend way more because I start browsing the store, so it probably doesn't balance out in the end, lol.

I don't mind going to walmart.  Using coupons I definitely get health/hygeine products cheaper than just about anywhere.  I like getting kids' play clothes there because they are cheaper (less expensive) so I don't get mad if they get ruined and stained...same thing for shoes.  My kiddos grow so fast and DS likes to play rough.  He has a pair of stride rite shoes and if I let him out to play in those I would be super paranoid!

For me, I recently bought some clothes there and will be going back for a few more becuase I am not down to my clothing size from having a baby yet have to go back to work very soon, so I will be buying some khaki's there to help hold me over while I work on losing the weight.

We have a new super walmart.  Then a Kroger and Meijer all within .5 miles of each other.

I have never seen a locally grown sign on their produce.

They have like 20 check out lines yet there is always only 4 open.

They don't double coupons. Yes they will price match and yes they don't adjust down their coupons. But they don't double nor do they have store coupons.  Why would i buy stuff at their store that is a "low price" when I can get it at Meijer or Kroger for cheaper with my double coupon or store coupon.

I don't even know if they have catalinas. Anyone know, money off your next order when you purchase certain items?

Nothing I enjoy more than standing in line forever then having my bags checked as I leave.   They  have done this to DH even when he is in uniform badge gun and all .  So its not the whole theft thing I think they have to check so many peoples bags before they leave.

I will go in for Johnsons buddies soap that is free after q . As well as pullups flushable wipes that are 17 cents after q's.

My choices in stores are Walmart, IGA, and a variety of dollar stores.  I just found out that our Walmart honors the ads from other stores, so I will have a chance at couponing yet.

I've never ever had my bags checked.... this is odd. Not here, which is a somewhat nice neighborhood, nor where I used to live, which was more lower income.....  hmmmmm...

I think it depends on the walmart on whether the bags get checked.  There are 2 walmarts somewhat near me, and one near my mother that she has me bring her to.  Of the 3, only 1 has asked to see my bag as I leave...I rarely go into that walmart becuase it is NASTY!  The other 2 are newer and stay pretty clean.

I hate how Sam's club checks receipts.  The last time I was there, they were not busy and the woman WATCHED me ring out, then walk to her and she still proceded to count my items and check it with the receipt.

At the older Walmart on Fields Ertel they checked receipts now and then but it really didn't offend me.  I realize they do this to discourage shoplifting which drives prices up.

At the new Super Walmarts in Mason, West Chester and Lebanon  I have never seen anyone have bags or receipts checked.  I thought it was because of enhanced security at the newer stores.

People ask where there produce comes from next time your in there.

Read the label on the fish, alot of it comes from farms in China.

Think about the water around China, they are very lax in their pollution control.

Personally I wouldn't touch it.

MJAZ pretty much hit the nail on the head with most of the couponers.  Aside from a few items it's not worth it to us to shop there.  They just aren't cheaper.

Another thing that bothers me is that I shop late at night often to avoid shopping with my kids.  I do this at all stores and only at Wal-mart do I see entire families (mom/dad/ toddlers/g-ma whatever) shopping at 11:30 at night.  I only see that occasionally at the other stores.  The toddlers are obviously tired and misbehaving every time.  For petes sake people!  Someone stay home so that kid can go to bed.  If it's a single mom it's understandable...she has to shop when she can and I try to give her a supportive smile.  But the other situation, if the mom can't trust the dad to watch the kid when the kid is sleeping she needs to reconsider her choice of partner.  JMO...  This just seems to be a constant theme at Wal-mart.

I worked at Walmart when I was 18. I was paid better there than many other places at the time. I am unsure about insurance because I was 18 and didn't care.

I have worked for Krogers also (I love shopping there BTW) I did not like how they ran things. Even if you worked full time hours you were still listed as part time. The biggest problem I had with them is that my hours could change even after having them because they people who had been there longer than me could take my hours to fill in theirs. I do not know that all the stores work that why but as an employee I do not enjoy it.
